I'm pretty tired tonight, so this is going to be a really rough first pass. Feel free to post questions / clarifications. Once it's cleaned up, I'll add it to the help section that's been empty for 1.5 years.
There are a few ways to add images to CRO. For all of these, if you know how to resize photos on your computer, please make them 600 pixels or smaller on the longest side before uploading to save space and processor time.
Embedded in the text such as in forum posts / blog posts.
- Click the spot in the text where you want to put the picture.
- Click the link that says "Insert Assets" down under the text box. (Yes, this is a horrible name. I'd love to have it added to the toolbar above but I don't know javascript. I've got a feature request in for the module for some time.)
- If you want to reuse an image you've already uploaded, select it and then click "choose".
- Most of the time you'll be uploading a new one, so click "upload"
- Where it says "upload a file" click the "choose" button.
- Navigate through your computer until you find the file you want to upload. (Hint for Windows users: Towards the top right is a little box that looks like a tiny little screen with thumbnails. Click on that and you have the option to change to a thumbnail display.)
- Fill in the title, author, and description if you want. Adding a title with some nice keywords helps out the site in the search engines.

- Click "next"
- If you already resized your image, choose "image" for the size. Otherwise choose "websized" which is the default. (This might not be an option for non admins... I need to run thru this with a regular account). Unfortunately, the thumbnail option will not give you a thumbnail that opens into a bigger one. I wish it did.

- Click "next" and then you can set the alignment if you want.
- You'll end up with something that looks like "[a***t|aid=78|format=websized|formatter=imagecache|title=2008-10-04__09-10-58.jpg|width=600|height=400|align=none]" in your text. That translates to:

Adding to the photo gallery
While you can put whatever sort of (family friendly) images you want in your posts, the photo galleries are meant for photos that are of general interest. I'd prefer for them to be related to the Coulee Region or at least Wisconsin/Minnesota but I'm not going to be super strict on that if you have a nice photo from some place else you'd like to share. Just please make sure you tag it appropriately.
- Go to the photo gallery.
- At the top where it says "Click here to add yours." do so.
- Give it a title, preferably a descriptive one if you can. Again, that helps with search engines.

- For image tags, this is a comma seperated list like "bluffs, rivers, views" describing what's in it. Plural tags make more sense when you click on a tag and see all the photos for that tag.
- The gallery name is important. The galleries here are free form and a "gallery" is actually created when you make a new name here. Existing galleries will show up in the autocomplete as you type and you can choose one of those or make a new one. In this case, I just made a new gallery for Minnesota since that's where my picture was taken. Though, techically, most of the photo is Wisconsin.

- Enter a caption if you want.
- Click "choose" to pick the image you want from your hard drive.
- You can click upload now, otherwise it will upload it when you submit the whole thing.
- Ignore the groups section unless you want to share this with a particular special interest group.
- If you know where the image was taken, enter the location in. Otherwise leave it blank.
- Click on submit. If you haven't already uploaded the image, you'll need to wait a bit while it uploads.
You can see my image here: http://couleeregiononline.com/gallery/michelle/minnesota-blufftop-view
If you click on the tags on the top right of the photo, you can see other images with that tag.
I just realized it doesn't put the gallery name in there... Need to fix that.
Other image spots
- In the area directory, there are places where you can add images. I'll detail that more when I get the area directory done as the details may be changing.
- Special interest groups. As I hinted in the Photo Gallery section, you can upload an image to a group by creating a new image and selecting that group from the list. Unfortunately, it currently dumps all of those into the main photo gallery. That's yet another thing on my to do list to fix.
- Events. You can add images to events as well. I'll get into that more later.
- One thing that's planned but not available, yet, is adding more images to your user profile. I'll let everyone know when that's done.
So, there's image handling in a nutshell. Hopefully that will help you guys. Remember to post if there's anything unclear. I went thru it pretty quick. Once I move it to the help section, I'll include screenshots as well so that will make it easier to understand.
Also, if there's anything you're not seeing it may be that I have a permission set wrong. I'll go through all this with a non admin account to double check it all. Not tonight, though. Typing all this wore me out. LOL

#2.. there is no insert Assets under my text box.
Oh, doh! I had it set wrong. In the software I'm using, the first post in the thread and the replies are actually different under the hood, just themed to look the same, and I only had it set to be available on "nodes" and not "comments". Ok, fixed that. I guess I never tried adding a picture in a comment before, just on the first post.
Thanks for letting me know. You should see it now, I hope.
@Everyone else: I do have it set so you need to be at least a "fledgling" in order to use it so if you don't see it, then you are still a hatchling or an egg. When I set up the access control, I made a few things available only to people who have a few posts under their belt and this was one of them.

Yup, thanks!

.This is a lake in Bavaria by the castles Neu Schwanstein and Hohenschwangau that I recently visited.
I am here at a forum newcomer. Until I read and deal with the forum.
Let's learn!
Welcome, GaroTeetene.
