I decided last weekend that I need to get serious about losing this baby weight. I was about 20 pounds overweight before I got pregnant. Two kids later, I'm 50 more than that. Ideally, I'd like to get down to 135 so I'm going to call it 75. I'm taking baby steps. To start, I'm cutting out junky snacks and no eating after supper. I brush my teeth after supper (my hygenist will be pleased) and then that's it. I started on Sunday and have been sticking to it so far. My actual meals aren't exactly healthy, yet, but I'll get there. I've got a long ways to go and I know if I push too hard I'll just give up.
The other side of the coin is exercising. I know I don't get enough of that. With the Fibromyalgia, just getting thru the day is tough enough. I'm exhausted and in a lot of pain and the last thing I want to do is exercise. But I know I've got to do it if I want to make progress. So I'm giving some serious thought to joining the YMCA. I'm hoping the childcare will give me the incentive I need.
So that's where I'm at. What about you? Anyone out there trying to lose some weight? Anyone go to the Y?
Michelle

I tried to lose weight once, but it kept finding me.
Heh, I'm usually pretty good about not regaining normally. I just lose at a glacial pace. Took me 4 years to lose 80 pounds the first time. Then I kept it off until I got pregnant. After two pregnancies, I'm up 50 pounds plus I never got to my goal weight in the first place. So I've got a long ways to go. Still keeping at my no snacking and no night time eating. If I can keep this going for a while, I'll start working on getting the meals themselves healthier. The pizza & cheezy baked potato I had for lunch isn't exactly health food. LOL
Michelle
I would like to lose weight, but my first goal is to minimize the soda intake, cause that alone will make me lose. The other issue is excercise. I have started doing more of it lately and am hoping to see some results slowly. I'm not much for exercise, but I do like taking my little guy for walks. I'm about 80 lbs from what I should be, but am not concentrating on weight as much as a healthier life-style.
My goal is to get healthy but losing weight is good "feedback". So far I haven't done well.
The first week I did really well then had stuff happen that got me munching and comfort eating again.
I really need to get back on track.
Michelle
I found a really healthy alternative for having the "munchies". I like ice-cream and there are these fruit bars from Edy's that have only 80 calories a piece and are so much more satisfying than a candy bar (at least that's my opinion). You have to try it. My favorite is Strawberry.
Mmm... Sounds good. I've been dying for a chocolate extreme Blizzard (with chocolate ice cream... Yum!) for ages now and am ] [ this close to giving in.
I'll have to check Woodmans for them when we go shopping Sunday.
Thanks,
Michelle
Believe it or not, hey're actually more expensive at Woodman's than at Walmart, but both stores have it. You have to let me know what you think about them.
Really? Strange. Woodmans is usually pretty cheap. Won't be getting to Walmart for a while, though, until we need diapers again, so I'll grab them at Woodmans. Anyway, really gotta get to bed. Hubby's gonna get mad. I was just out here to finish some client work and couldn't resist taking a peek here when I got that done.
Night,
Michelle
I want to lose weight but its so hard for me to find motivation. I think having an exercise buddy would be a great help. It'd be easier knowing someone else is depending on me. But so far no luck in finding one. I'm not big into health food but I'm slowly trying different things and hoping I'll find some healthy food that actually tastes good. So far I recommend Kashi Orchard Spice Granola it has flax seed in it which provides omega-3's and it tastes awesome. Also I love South Beach Living On the Go Tide Me Over water bottle packets in Natural Tropical Breeze. I think it tastes just like fresh strawberrys with sugar but maybe my tastes buds are screwy. lol. Also I love chocolate malt Ovaltine with skim milk for a chocolate fix. Yum. My next experiment is with the Trempealeau Hotel's Walnut Burger. I read rave reviews on lacrossetribune.com a couple weeks ago and so snapped some up from Festival Foods yesterday.
I also like the Edy's fruit bars. My favorite has been the lime flavored. I'd love to hear about any other healthier & tasty foods anyone has tried. It'd be awesome to be able to have a full selection of foods that tastes good and wouldn't hurt the figure. lol
Oh, nuts, I forgot to look for the fruitbars when we were shopping today.
I'll have to see if I can find them next time I'm at WalMart, then.
I could use a buddy, too. Do you have a Y membership? I just joined a bit over a week ago but missed the last week because the kids were sick. I'm going to start going again tomorrow, though. YWatch opens at 3:45 so that's when we get there. I stay until about 5:30 or so.
Eating healthy... yeah... I'm not so good at that. I'm terribly picky and looking at those "meal plans" magazines put out makes me gag. I'm still struggling to control my snacking but not worrying about the meals. Once I've mastered the munchies, then I'll need to healthy up the meals if I want to make real progress.
So far my weigh ins have been 208, 200, 204, 201.4. The first I did good but not 8 pounds good, so I think a lot of that is just general weight fluctuation. Still, I weigh less than I did 3 weeks ago so that's progress.
Michelle
I have not been losing any weight, but I've been more active, so I'm happy about that.. if I can just go for a walk every day and make it a fast paced walk, I'm ok... then I just want to quit the Dew... my goal for that is by October when we go to Germany, cause you can't find it in Germany.... perfect time to quit, but I need to be lo enough to not get caffeine withdrawal.
Yeah, just being more active is good even if the weight stays the same. I know I feel better when I make myself work out no matter how hard it is to get started. I just have to be careful not to push myself too much. I've got fibromyalgia so it's always a fine line between keeping moving and overdoing it.
I'm lucky that I've never been much of a soda drinker. Those suckers have a lot of calories and I can't stand the taste of diet. Good luck giving up the dew. Giving up that rush of sugar and caffeine at the same time is going to be tough. I'll be cheering for you.
Michelle
Ugh. I've been trying to lose 5 lbs (that I gained earlier this summer) for a few weeks now and if anything I've GAINED weight! That's what happens every time I start concentrating on not snacking much, I just start snacking MORE. Yuck, yuck, yuck. I bought almost all new clothes this spring because I lost a bunch of weight, now I just need to STAY there. Snacking is my huge downfall and being home with the kids is what gets me. I'm trying to work out more too, but started back with running a bit too strong and have gotten some minor injuries. Uphill battle!
Oh, definitely. There's nothing like deciding to stop snacking to bring on pregnancy level cravings of junk food!
Running (minus the injuries) sounds like fun. I haven't run more than a short distance since I was a kid. I can still remember the feeling, though, of pushing myself to stretch my legs and fly as fast as I could. Heady stuff. I'd love to get back there again some day.
Michelle
PS: Thanks for stopping by, Kate
I lost a bunch of weight after I had my daughter 21 years ago and I did it with running and not drinking soda. So yeah, I know the running too.. don't know if I'll ever get to running again.
Another bad night last night. Gave into the hunger and ate waaay too many crackers. Ugh. Starting over again today. I'll get to the Y this afternoon and try to have a better week.
Michelle
The walnut burgers I tried were good. I wouldn't say excellent but they were good. Also, I just found a site called SparkPeople. Its basically a free tool to help people lose weight. I'm going to start trying it & hopefully it will help.
Boy' I'll be hurting tomorrow. I re-discovered Dance Dance Revolution and I played it for hours today. Worked off right about 500 calories....
Michelle, I too have Fibro by the way.. don't know if I told you that before. If not, check this out Fibro
I'm at a pretty good place right now, except for when I overdo it, and I do that a lot..lol.
Wow, that sounds like quite a workout. I don't know if you've mentioned fibro... I don't have the best memory.
That article is right on. It does make excercising difficult. So far I've been taking it slow at the Y, mostly using the recumbent bike and some on the eliptical. And I walk the track a lot. I haven't overdone it so far, but I want to add the weight machines soon so that may do it.
Michelle
I don't do weights anymore... injured myself and took months to recoup... Funny thing is that I had a trainer at the Y while I did that. I don't think much of the trainers there anymore since then.
I'll only do the machines, not the freeweights. Not that you can't get hurt on those but it's at least less likely. I did the machines when I joined a gym years ago and I think they really helped me. They've got some nice ones at the Y. I need to set up a training session on them first, though.
Michelle
I'm finally not sore anymore. Done some more Dance Dance Revolution yesterday, but ony 100 cal. worth (the reason I go by calories, is because it tells me how many I burned... don't keep track of time when I do this). It's really fun. I'm getting ready to do some more today.
Glad you're feeling better.
I go by calories, too. I usually manage about 200 at the Y. The wierd thing is that I burn more calories on the recumbant bike than on the eliptical in the same amount of time. I wonder if there's some calibration off, there? My percieved effort is a lot higher on the eliptical so you'd think I would be burning more there. Strange.
Michelle
No idea about that sort of thing. You could ask one of the trainers there and see what they say.
